Karla Caves

India has a rich culture which can be attributed to hundreds of Monuments and Excavations spread across various parts of the country. Some of them date back to 200 B.C till A.D 1700. Popular monuments have got recognition as World Heritage Sites and find mention from the Archaeological Department of India.  Karla Or Karle Caves is one of the few Buddhist Caves which attracts thousands of tourists every year and is a protected monument.
Karla Caves are Rock-Cut architectured first by the Buddhist Community from 2nd Century B.c to 5th-10th century. It is located in Karli Village, Lonavala, state Maharashtra. The most spectacular part of the caves to be mentioned is the grand Chaitya Griha and the most prominent of the remaining excavations. As the remaining architectures have suffered damages, it is the centre of attraction.Chaitya is a Buddhist temple or shrine which has a stupa. So, it a sort of Buddhist Temple, which reminds us the presence of Buddhist community in this area.

The karla caves has well carved sculptures of Males & Females, animals like Elephant and Lions. It was really a nice to experience the caved monument and just reminds us about how precious these are. It could have been really hard work to build them centuries ago.I have some pics which i had taken when i visited it along with my friends. Hope you also take some time off to see these precious Indian Sculptures.
